Image Not FoundHi I'm a new member currently working with First Issue Revenue stamps. Has anyone seen an impressed cancel? Is this a cancel?? Please see image of front of stamp then back of stamp after image reversed in Paint 3D. It's kind of funny, actually, but wondering how to value it. Thanks!

Very interesting seeing the cancel like that.

It is an embossed cancel that breaks the surface of the paper (does not keep it smooth like a postal/pen cancel would). According to Scott, such cancels adversely affect the value of the stamp. Still, you have an interesting cancel and know which company paid the bank check tax.

Scott, Shmott ... I love that embossed little beauty.

Too bad that the document (to which it had been affixed) seems to have been lost.

Cheers,

If you change the title of your request to include the words US Revenue you may attract the attention of the revenue experts.

In my limited experience revenue stamps with clear company cancels such as this one are often highly sought after.

In more than 40 years of collecting (as an adult), I have never encountered a cancellation like that one. Interesting. It would fit into my album of curiosities. I don't actually have an album of curiosities, but perhaps I should have!
