I am a returnee to collecting from boyhood. Just got back into it at 66 while recovering from quadruple bypass and other heart surgeries. This harmless hobby, relatively speaking, has helped my outlook and sanity. Interest is WW 1840-1940. I have a lot of questions but I can see y'all are a bunch of forbearing, kind and good people. Looking forward.

Welcome. Many returnees here, self included. I love the scope of 1840 - 1940, I collect several countries up to 1980. GB, Australia, US, and colonial Africa. My favorite areas.

And good job on surviving your ordeal. My wife recovered from breast cancer and complications, so I know it is hard work. Enjoy!

SCUSA. Welcome back to collecting and to StampoRama. My name is Mitchell and I'll be 68 in a couple weeks. Many of us started collecting, as I did round 8 years old and then took a hiatus for a number of years before getting back into collecting. I started collecting again in 1988 when I noticed that the stamp market had crashed. Prices are still for the most part are still lower than they were then. I think you will find you've made a great choice for your retirement especially due to your recent problems. The last few years I've also had medical problems that have caused me to be home bound and without stamp collecting I don't know what I would do. You must have thousands of questions so don't be afraid to ask, starting probably with albums, catalogs supplies and the best way to grow your collection at the best prices. You'll get many different answers to your questions many of which will disagree except to collect they way you want.
I have my world wide collection online. It shows most of the stamps of the world and should provide you with a good reference to what is out there and help you decide what you might want to collect. See the link below.

Welcome! Similar story, only my wife was the patient!

A few years ago my wife had heart surgery and we were in the house for 8 weeks. I decided it would be a good time to pull out my old stamp collection and see if I could assemble a reasonable collection from what I had. And we went down the merry path from there!
