re: LARGE BLOCK OF HALF PENNY ROO

Hi Horamakhet

The block of 16 were from the original plates of John Ash. McCracken substituted “John Ash” with “By Authority” around 1942, at one stage he reprinted the ½d roo with the original imprint of Ash, and then he burnished the Ask imprint and substituted it with his own which caused plate cracks to occur and then he had new plates made with the “By Authority” imprint. The block you have is the “By Authority” issue.

The positions of your block is line 65 (row 9) and line 73 (row 10). Now there are sometimes misplaced cliches out of alignment and other varieties on line 73, I would like to see that block enlarged in detail, I do not think it is possible on the forum as it may go over the maximum size.

Can you enlarge that block and send it to me, I am writing a book about the 1938-56 roo stamp and will be able to see if there is anything else that will make the block more interesting.
