Hello, I would consider myself somewhat of a novice to collecting and have come across 2 2 cent 1890 Washingtons. I know there is a lake and a carmine version given numbers 219d and 220 respectively. The two stamps appear to be two distinct shades of red but I keep going back and forth on which each is so I thought I would see if anyone has any recommendations or opinions. Thanks.

re: Scott 219d vs 220

Hi Sam,
Color ID from images is tricky. Lake has more blue in the color and 219D are typically fairly easy to differentiate from the 220 when you have a pile of them.

Below is an old stock book I had laying around, the first five stamps are 220, the rest are 219D. Hope this helps you.

If you would like a 219D message me off-board and I will send you one.
