I have over time seen several of these covers and have not been able to find any documentation about them. They generally feature a charity stamp not used by the Minhelet Haam Post and are usually dated just prior to statehood as with the attached example. Is this a "philatelic favor," or a real postal specimen? Anyone know anything about it?Image Not Found

re: Laassireinu?

It looks like a picture of Max Nordau. There was a set issued in 1909 from the Colone office of the KKL according to Kaplove book. There was also a Nordau stamp issued in 1949.
Shapira also apppeared on several stamps and has a similar photo. However it is not one of the listed stamps, athough the pcture is similar.

La Assireinu......for our jailed, or for people in jail.

The addressee is an organization who look after those in jail.

Both the overprint and cancel appear to be private.

re: Laassireinu?

I knew I had seen this.
There is a picture on page 39 of Meir Persoff's Running Stag book of this postmark.
There are different stamps on the cover, and no specific comments by the author, except that it was an emergency post cancellation. This cover is addressed to New York.
