Image Not FoundSome of the recent modes to cancel stamps by USPS are:
1. Completely cover in black the stamp(s); barely you can guess that there is a stamp on the envelope!
2. Use the markers or pencils, see my scan.
Should we place panels at the next US International Show or Exhibition with these examples?

I guess that it is useless to contact USPS! They just do not care, right?
Thanks, Virgil

re: Great US Postal Service: stamp cancel!

Virgil, I started a new specialty collection I call the "Wall of Shame." It is primarily examples of the USPS trying to kill the hobby. No organization to it yet, but I think you've offered me two section titles: stamps destroyed by machine and stamps destroyed by humans. At Wits End At Wits End At Wits End

The stamps destroyed by machine will include those you describe covered in black ink as well as stamps ripped or shredded by the rollers.

Another disappointing treatment by the USPS is to send the stamps through without cancel. After the Post Office went to so much trouble for so many years to keep stamps from being reused (e.g., grills), they now seem to cancel less than half of the mail. They don't seem to care, except to remind us that it is illegal to reuse stamps. Ah, the honor system.

If it is any consolation, foreign offices aren't doing much better...

Thanks Chris. I love it! "Marker Monkeys and Other Stamp Crimes." May have to rename my album.

You could start a worldwide collection!

This is from a major UK dealer. They mail a price list to me on a regular basis, and I've asked them to remove me from their mailing list until they have a chat to their local office. They replied with "Nothing we can do, sorry". £5-6 of stamps ruined on every mailing.
