You're in Wisconsin? Plenty of cheese to eat!
And beer to drink
Well, Michael and Dakota -
I figured those two were a given!
I did find that there are 3 vinyl shops here, so I will be scoping those out;
I also plan to visit the capitol building, which is the only capitol building on an isthmus and also the only one in the US with a dome made of granite;
there is also the Olbrich Botanical Gardens - however I am not much on botany;
I did not find any sports card shops in town, even though there are 3 listed - went to find them but all 3 have since moved on (I collect Detroit Tigers only).
So, today I guess I will start with the vinyl shop called B-Side Vinyl which is within walking distance. And along the way is a new and used book store, which I will also take in as I stroll the downtown streets.
After that - well, who knows?
Oh! I did find and purchase an issue of SPORT magazine from 1961 with Rocky Colavito on the cover and an article on him inside - cost me only 3 bucks at the antique mall....not bad!
More to follow as my daily adventure continues.....
Lake Edge Stamp Service is located in McFarland, Wisconsin which is a suburb of Madison. It is operated by Robert Voss. I don't know if he is open to the public.
Just had a look on Google Earth. Looks like a lot of great places to go fishing.
You could drive a little ways north to Beaver Dam. They have the Circus World Museum and the International Crane Foundation is there.
If you pass post offices, take a photo! The Postmark Collectors Club maintains a huge database of post office photos and you may find some they don't have. I dutifully send in the ones they don't have from my NJ postal jaunts. And most interesting, they didn't have my current home town of Exton, PA. So I just sent that one in too!

Madison has an abundance of foreign cuisine restaurants.
We have returned!
It was a fun trip for me, over all.
For my wife, it was work, bless her heart;
but I was afforded a week's worth of doing whatever I wanted to do with my time!
I ended up finding the one lone sportscard shop just west of town and was able to add a small handful of Detroit Tigers cards to my collection - being in a National League state, there wasn't too much to find there, so I'm glad I found what I did;
I did go to the P.O. to acquire a cancellation - here's a graphically cropped pic:
This P.O. was directly across the street from the capitol building, as is the official P.O. of the Capitol itself.
I am happy I brought my page of printed postal regulations with me regarding hand back service, as they were initially refusing to honor my request....one of many times!
We went to a different restaurant each evening - most were okay, but the one we wandered into on Thurday was incredible!
It's called Porta Bella Italian Restaurant. You can check out the website - just type 'Porta Bella Madison' - but the images there do NOT do it justice! The main floor dining area has been made to resemble a 1920's or 30's style restaurant and it just FEELS like it! When we walked in there, we felt just like we had walked directly into a time warp!
And the food was wonderful!
On the trip back, we first drove to Milwaukee so I could go see the Brewers Ballpark;
we went to the gift shop inside the park and took some pics in and around where we could, then I purchased an official ball for my baseball collection.
Then drove back home to Michigan!
All in all, a good road trip!
Well,
Here I am in Wisconsin (Madison) with my wife for a week;
She has conferences every day, and I have - well....nothing!
Any suggestions what to do around here, anyone?
I have picked out a few antique places to go, but that's about it.
