I wondered how long it would take for someone to figure it out. Yes, that's it as earth's rotation takes the planet closer to the probes. The probes continue to gain distance away from the sun, which is the central point from which their distance is measured.

I noticed something interesting today. Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are actually getting closer to the earth (as of today).
