"The album seems to have more spaces that the catalog allows for."
Thanks Michael
It's actually a bit backwards from what you would expect. The album contains spaces for stamps that do not have catalog numbers. I know the stamps exist because I have the stamps to go there, but no Scott number for them. Usually there are more stamps in the catalog than are in the album. I have many many countries with stamps put in spare places or spare pages. Thanks for your help, I'd be curious if one of the other numbering systems allow for more stamps than Scott does.
Often, Michel and Gibbons numbers for a country are higher than the numbering for Scott. But then, Scott uses minor numbering for many of the stamps for which Gibbons uses major numbers, for example. If you go to specialized catalogs from any publisher, the number of stamps listed for a particular country would be higher, and the types of stamps would be expanded from what is found in standard catalogs.
Older editions of the Scott International albums do not contain catalog numbers, and often contain spaces for stamps that have been deleted from the catalogs (for various reasons).
I am wondering if there is a knowledgeable person out there for the Alfonso XIII series for Puerto Rico. I have been trying to number this difficult large series of stamps by matching up Scott numbers with openings in the Scott volume 1 album. The album seems to have more spaces that the catalog allows for. There seems to be more colour shades for some denominations than Scott has numbers for - I especially noticed it for the 6c denomination, I'm sure I have 3, not 2, different colours. The catalog calls for a dk. brown and a pale rose, I also seem to have an orange brown which is very different from the dark brown. Has anyone else noticed the same problem? I thought I should ask the experts out there before I panicked. I haven't had problems with Cuba and The Philippines which have the same stamps, mostly. It could be oxidization and I don't have a working camera at this time. I'm just curious if anyone else has had difficulties numbering these stamps.
Addition: I'm noting more differences between what the album asks for and what the catalog provides. Has anyone else who uses the Scott's catalog and the Scott's International album noticed this for Puerto Rico?
