Hi, I created some pages using OpenOffice 4.1.5, saved and then later added some wording by copy and paste then printed the pages and saved again, now I cannot get into the document to create more pages, I just get a message saying "not a WinWord97 file". Anyone know how I can get it to open to be used again?

I downloaded something called "DOC Viewer free" and can now see the document but cannot do anything with it.

re: help needed please

Have you tried using OpenOffice to open the file?

Did you save the file you created in OpenOffice in the open office format (odt) or Microsoft Word (.doc or docx)?

I am guessing it is something to do with the wording that I copied and pasted as none of my other pages have this problem.

re: help needed please

Hi Martyn,
I would suspect that the problem occurred when you saved the document rather than being specific to the text that you copied and pasted.
When using OpenOffice, unless you actually need MS Word interoperability, I would suggest that in future you save in OpenOffice format rather than in Word format.

As you can see your file in "DOC Viewer free" it is probably not beyond redemption. If you have a Gmail account you could try opening the file with Google Docs, and if successful resaving it.
If you are unsure of how to open it in Google docs, go to https://www.wikihow.com/Open-Google-Docs, scroll down to "Method 4 Creating a New Google Docs File" and follow those instructions (if you already have a Gmail account you can just login instead of creating a new account).
Once you have followed the instruction to creating a new file, select "file" then "open" from the menu and then choose upload to open your file.
Let us know how you make out,
Clive

Thank you very much Clive, I already had Google Chrome on my computer but had no idea about GoogleDocs. Managed to save the important bits, lost some formatting but that wasn't important. Now will use GoogleDocs for all future pages I create and save.

Once again thank you

Martyn
