I found these covers in a junk box from Romania to Australia all have strange postal markings.I take it these would have travelled through the Suez Canal?

re: Came across these 1940s covers from Romania to Australia

Interesting covers, Brian.

1949 had to be a tumultuous time in Romania...
Looks like 3 different senders.
Katoomba is west of Sydney.

I tried googling Gianni Nanos, Katoomba, and came up with nothing.
The Hotel Gearin was the oldest licensed pub in Katoomba, but closed its doors about a month ago...

I am always curious about the ventures of the recipient of a group of covers such as these...

Hopefully, you'll encounter an Arabic reader who can decipher the cancellations, but I also see "SINAIA" on the top cover, which seems to be an important clue...

These are so interesting. This one is from the Methodist Mission in Yunan to UK via New York. Chinese Stamps on the back of the wafer thin envelope rather than the front. Opened and passed by censor. They cut the end of the envelope open.I think its KUNNING DATED 9.4.41/23 but the stamps have CHAOTUNG. Such variants. Thank you for your posting.Image Not Found
