Hi to all

My wife got all these from the opp.

1998 dexluxe Australian Post collection

2003 Collection of Australian Stamps

All for less than 25% of the retail value of the MNH stamps.

And this from some-one who tells me I am spending too much on stamps.

Regards

Horamakhet

Very nice choice of stamps, Didn't your wife have little interest in stamps? She has a keen eye for choice condition.

re: MY WIFE'S PURCHASES FROM THE OPP SHOP

Hi Rob

My wife is like your partner

"Stop spending so much time on stamps, I cant understand what the obsession is with little bits of paper" is her usual comment

Then she will come home from the opp shop, and say "I found these, and I thought you might not have them, and you might want to keep them, and they come with a book to store them in. "

Women, such contrary creatures(( I say that in the nicest way, not being offensive to anyone)

My youngest son, wants to start a collection of stamps, which is great, so he may one day end up with my collection.I am encouraging him and guiding him, in firstly, how to care and store stamps. I give him all the used decimals to search through and sort into themes, to give him a grounding in how to look for interesting items. I don't let him anywhere the MNH ones as yet.

Who knows, he may turn out to be a better philatelist than me.

Regards

re: MY WIFE'S PURCHASES FROM THE OPP SHOP

Victoria says she has no interest in collecting stamps though she likes the colours and some of the images, whenever a stamp I might like is on sale she alerts me to it, and now she has become a member of the ACCC of NSW, she is the youngest to become a member and has become friends with Geoff Kellow and Michael Drury.
.
Victoria said she learns more of Australia at the club then she has ever been taught at high school and university, and find the discussions quite interesting, I coughed once and she told me to shush up so she can hear the talk.

And when a major presentation is shown, which is every month; there is Victoria amongst the group asking questions about the stamps and those on cover.

Everyone likes to talk to her and has become quite poplar.

The stamp and coin expo will be open for four days from Thursday 13th June until Sunday 16th June 2019; Victoria intends to go; not bad for someone who once was adamant that she has no interest in stamps.

I nicknamed her the closet philatelist.

What's an "opp shop"? Is it some kind of bizarre Australian-only place?

Op-shop, also spelled "opp shop" (Opportunity store), also thrift store, are places where second hand goods are sold to raise money for charity. They are often run by the Salvation Army or St Vincent de Paul (also known as Vinnies).
