Welcome Rachel!!
Hi Rachel, and welcome. Don't be in too big a hurry to purchase. Give yourself a chance to learn about areas of interest to you, and to tap into the broad expertise available to you in this club.
Once you've gotten a kind of 'handle' on your interest areas, then you'll have a lifetime available to you to do the purchasing. You have entered a hobby area that can last a lifetime, with many exciting adventures to accompany you on that journey.
Did you know that right here on SOR we have an in-house auction, with books of stamps for sale? And that there are many members in whatever your field selection is that have duplicates they can make available to get you going? And there are others that would be happy to have you purchase from them at prices usually better than on eBay?
Just saying, and again, welcome aboard.

Rachel,
welcome,
what made Belgian Congo attractive to you? were they a large part of what you found? the stamps themselves? the history of the place? distant relative of Leopold?
I'm always interested in how things came to be.

Hi Rachel;
Hi Rachel from cornwall, I'm Ken from the woodsy area of Lake County Michigan.
Welcome to the best stamp club in the Milky Way! Lots of experts here willing to help, just ask away. I also collect world-wide and have been at it since 1950s.
Still just sortin'....

Welcome aboard Rachel. I hope you will enjoy it in here. I too collect the Belgian colonies, but only up to independence. I have noticed that after independence, whether it is Belgian, British, French, or whatever, most former colonies went wild with the number of issues produced. It is hard for most collectors to keep up with them. My opinion of course.

Rachel, Actually - I will have a new Belgian Congo approval book coming soon (probably in July) - send me a message if you want since I would work with you off-line via a list if you do not want to wait for the book if you have specific wants ! Once the book is published you would have to be fast - around here ! My only issue is that I am no expert on these stamps so I may not be able to tell a fake from a real one. I was not aware of the fakes in these particular stamps. Steve
Welcome to the SOR and the World of stamp collecting. I am a world collector with a high level of completion and the Belgian Congo is one of my top favorites. Other than Parcel
Post my Belgian Congo is complete thru independence. You can view it by viewing the link below. It will show you all of the stamps issued to show you what you are in for. It will show you much more than Stamp World, Stamp World uses many of my images.

Hello everyone,
I'm Rachel from Cornwall. I found a box of stamps in our bedroom a month ago and now I buy stamps pretty much everyday. I collect all kinds but I'm currently in love with Belgian Congo stamps (pre-1950) and I'm slowly working my way through them all. I use the website Stampworld.com as my catalogue.
I joined to learn more as I'm concerned that (as I buy mainly from ebay) some of my stamps are fake and I need someone with good knowledge to help me figure out what's not quite right. Hope to trade as well if people are interested I have a lot of stamps to trade with
Nice to meet you all
