Hi Franz
There are quite a few varieties of this particular stamp, and many of the varieties are scarce and some run in progressive order.
I'm sure it's going to be interesting reading, especially for those who will be looking out for these varieties.
Rob
As I am compiling a book relating the the ½d Kangaroo series from 1938-1966, including plating and identifying varieties; this page will be showing the varieties I currently have and any information found; though the book will be fully detailed when completed.
This page will continuously be added and any extra information added to current images; the varieties will not be shown in order of year.
Weak re-entry at top right corner
Faint curl under paw (dilly bag shown with arrow, in some stamps these curls have been known to be more prominent); and there is no shaded background
Colour flaw on middle of first upright branch rear roo's back (aka Nest in tree)
Colour flaw below and between "PO" of "POSTAGE" (aka Bird in sky)
Small dot directly below the "A" of "POSTAGE" under the canopy and above the hill
Prominent weak entry to the top right corner. There is also a vertical line extending from the top and an inward spike-like projection 1mm in length, protruding from a point 2½mm below the top of the right frame line
Perforation pip below imprint. To ensure accurate centring of perforations, markings were placed in the margins of sheets to identify pinning points where the sheets were secured prior to passing through the perforating machine. Little attention was paid prior to the 1950s when alterations to the patterns of the perforation pips then in use began to appear. Some pips are punctured holes
Colour dot next to ear (aka 'Falling leaf')
Colour dot next to foreleg
Extensive retouch to entire top half of stamp affecting many lines of shading (a view of the entire top half is shown below). A considerable portion of the kangaroo's facial features is affected by the retouch as well as to the leaves and left frameline. "White Hills" in background
Entire top portion extensively retouched
Long dash in front of the roo's ears
Colour flaw (extra foliage) behind the animal's back, at the base of the hill, below the left branch of the tree behind the 'roo
Misplaced Cliché, stamps out of alignment, the left is higher than the right (Meaning - A modern printing plate is one piece, and the individual parts of it are known as subjects rather than clichés; Error collectors see references to clichés, because errors can occur from mistakes on a cliché, or if a cliché of one stamp design was accidentally introduced into a plate of a different design; in this case it is the latter)
3mm break in outer frame, 23mm down from top left corner
