Welcome! You also might want to attend ChicagoPex in November. It's not very far from Roselle.
Thanks for the welcome. I had a look at the details of ChicagoPex - it looks a little, ummm, intense for someone at my current level of involvement in the stamping world!
Basically I'm at the stage of looking at stamps with trains on them and going 'choo choo' to myself - or out loud if I'm alone. Not sure I'm ready to hang with the big boys yet.
Welcome!!
Thanks!
Welcome to SOR
Thanks!
Woo-hoo! I now have a stamp album (or I think I should say Stockbook).
Time to get busy filling it with little pieces of paper
Hi from another train nerd mad keen trainspotter when I was a kid in the UK our local line was LNER but were I lived we never got much main line traffic.
I too have a nice collection of railway covers and postcards.Still have my Ian Allan badge and a reprinted version of British Railway Locomotives Combined Volume winter 1955/56 my copy was printed in 1999 .
Welcome from a now Aussie.

Welcome! And enjoy the board. It's a lot of fun and people are willing to share and give advise. I've met three of the members face to face so far!
I used to live in upper Monmouth County NJ which was under the flight path for all of the New York airports. As a kid I'd walk the dog at night and watch the orderly procession of aircraft headed for landing at Newark!
'
I moved back to the ancestral apartment to take care of Mom; if you drew a straight line between LGA (LaGuardia) and JFK airports, we'd be right on the mid-point.
When running errands, there are always aircraft about, but they are always off in the distance.
It took me a little while to realize that my parents had bought an apartment in the de-confliction zone between LGA and JFK (then Idlewild) and, therefor, no planes ever pass overhead.
Amazing.
Welcome to SOR.
No need to collect like an adult; I know I don't.
Cheers,
/s/ ikeyPikey (who always puts his "chuga-chuga" before his "choo-choo")
Kudos to you for looking after your mom
Hi illimey;
From a former Chicagoan, welcome to SOR!
I first lived at Diversey near Polaski, a few blocks from Logan Square.
Then in DesPlaines, former home of John Wayne Gasey, the mass murderer.
and finally in Fox Lake Illinois, NO RUNWAYS THERE!!!!
Favorite Chicago pizza joint; Father & Son
Favorite Mexican restaurant; La Magarita, in Palatine
Favorite tracks Maywood for trotters, Arlington Park for thoroughbred races
Best 4th of July fireworks; Fox Lake from your boat
Have fun on here, and you will learn a lot
still just sortin'....

It's been about 40 years since I've had a stamp album. I still don't have one, but over the last few weeks have started a collection of covers and have definitely got the bug. Just ordered a lot of 560+ WW used stamps from one of you guys out here in StampoRama land. Probably need to buy myself some tweezers!
What happened to get me started? Well even though it's just a few weeks ago, not really sure (brain is on the blink) but I've been hitting memory lane a lot recently and something triggered me to start looking at FDCs on eBay...
As a British train nerd living in the US since 2000, I had to have this cover which is the pride of my very new and very small collection. Loving going the places this new hobby is taking me! Anyone here from NW Chicago who goes to the meetings around here? Think I may check it out on 9/30.
