He was the cream of the crop of drummers.
The original "wild man" of drummers who paved the way for Keith Moon to be even more excessive. How did he live to be 80? Amazing!
He also was a pioneer in using African drum beats, later expanded by one of my favorite bands: Talking Heads.
He was most well known from his days with Cream, but he also was a founding member of Blind Faith, another great band of the era. I inherited my older brother's vinyl collection when he died, so I'll have to find some time to seek out the various albums featuring Baker over our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing an album from "Ginger Baker's Air Force" and another featuring him and Jack Bruce (Cream's bassist) but not sure if these were issued before/after Cream's breakup.
Not a nice man by any means, but one helluva drummer.....
GB's AF is after Cream and Blind Faith
there's also GB Trio
and at least two solo albums: "unseen rain" and "horses and trees"
Blind Faith had only one album, whereas Cream was pretty prolific. Baker typically hated at least one guy in every band in which he played, and especially Jack Bruce.
The great thing is that the music from Cream and BF really holds up and doesn't feel dated nor even merely nostalgiac
no links... find them on your own ... Tales of Brave Ulysses; Badge; White Room; Sunshine of your love ... We shall not look upon your like again...
