And to the Veteran Working Dogs and their Handlers:
'
This is not that hard:
Service member, still serving: Armed Forces Day.
Service member, past service: Veteran's Day.
Service member, past living: Memorial Day.
Making all of these holidays about all of these people honors no one.
And, sigh, if you must: National K9 Veterans Day: March 13
Cheers,

Oopsie let me change that to Veteran k9 heroes and their handlers.
One of the more memorable soldiers:
He wasn't killed in action, but he paid the price of the mental anguish for the rest of his life.
So many lives wasted Flowers of the Forest
I finally made it to Ottawa to see the ceremonies in person. They say 32,000 people were there! I was right at the memorial, freezing like never before, and I've spent 2 years up near the North Pole! Here's a photo from where I was at. I should have been on the street to the right of me to see the parade of vehicles & soldiers!
I can't imagine how the soldiers survived the rigours of war!
Just thought I would post this here, three "stamps" from the Isle of Islay;
Hi Everyone;
In Flanders fields the poppies blow.
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky.
The larks, still bravely singing, fly.
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
just a few lines from:
In Flanders Fields by John McCrae
One of Canada's own, and a brave soldier
still just sortin'....

Today is December 7th, and "Remember Pearl Harbor" was a popular slogan during WW II and thereafter. Not many people do any more. It was 78 years ago and there are not many people still living who witnessed or heard about the attack on that day in 1941. Seems like there should be some acknowledgement of the event today.
Patriotic covers that carry a remembrance slogan may be found occasionally on eBay. I have only one which I collected for the Pearl Harbor cinderella label tied to the cover. A return address on the reverse is the same as the addressee indicating he prepared the cover and mailed it to himself to commemorate the 50th anniversary. Anyone else have Pearl Harbor-related covers or memorabilia?

Linus (with a hat-tip to ikeyPikey for telling me about that cover.)
Thanks, Linus, for the link. Indeed, an interesting item, the Dec 7th cancel, and the post card you collected as well.

A salute to all of our veterans on this holiday.
