Not a computer techie but you can remove the whole player and either try and repair or replace the unit entirely, they are basically plug -in units.
You can also just pick up a usb dvd/cd player for about 25 bucks like this - just search amazon for usb dvd
I agree with the other two comments. I would just replace it. I actually have two. One internal, and a USB player. Neither cost that much.
nlroberts/Nancy hit the nail on the head for the EASIEST solution.
However, if you are handy with simple tools, an internal replacement unit would be
the next easiest....with less components sitting around.
As was mentioned, both are economical solutions.
well the nice thing about the usb is its portability and if you have multiple devices as many folks do nowadays, its better than the internal. If you are really handy you can probably fix it. Its very easy to get the laser out of alignment tho and then you are hooped. I've tried fixing a few cd players with mixed results. The spring mechanism on the pc ones is not as tough as the ones on the old stereo models but they really aren't meant to be repaired. Its fun to experiment tho.
I have a desktop computer with CD/DVD player.I accidentally knocked the cd tray off the computer. Is there any way to fix this?
