After we switched to a voip phone got a new number and elected to exclude our number from the phone book we have not had one in over a year.

The gub'ment has actually cracked down on this in several ways. Kudos to all our wonderful elected officials!
Why are the telecom companies not able to let us tell them from whom we will accept calls. They can then block everything else.
the house and senate passed a bill that's waiting for the president to be sign,(if he ever quits tweeting) while they agree that it wouldn't do much to stop robocalls it may help. Personally I think that ID caller was the best idea phone companies could come up with and now with the smart phones messages like "scam" and "fraud risk" its very easy to avoid those calls.
The bill was approved by the Senate and sent to Trump only a few days ago (12/19/2019).

I get a couple of the calls a day. Right now it's the car warranty scam, and the credit card interest scam. You will also notice a drop off in robocalls whenever you hear in the news that a group of phone scammers was arrested.
just get rid of your landline ...
I don't have a landline. They are on my cell phone. I can't block incoming calls, because of my mother's medical situation I get calls from people taking care of her at any time, and the phone numbers are all different. When I did block the calls, the doctor was unable to get through to me. It's all right, since i don't get that many spam calls anymore. When I realize that I have answered a spam call, I make myself sound like an Indian and tell the caller that they contacted the IRS.
A simple, inexpensive (under $6 at Walmart) solution that I use for these calls. The 120-decibel blast tends to discourage them from calling twice.

We do not answer the house phone. We use caller id to pick up when it is a number we know. Most never leave a message.

Quite by a fortuitous accident, my current cellphone number is from a place I've rarely visited.
The result is that all of the clowns who spoof a number that looks like your local area code (might be a neighbor!) stand out nicely, and I can ignore them.
My next cellphone number is going to be 701 or 406.
Cheers,

Ikey, not sure if it applies in USA but here in Canada the cost of a cell call relates to where the 'phone is registered.
A couple of years ago I had occasion to call a person living 3 miles NW of me in Manitoba, I got charged long distance because her mobile was registered in London, Ontario. Costly as the call had lasted almost an hour.
The cell phone providers long ago stopped caring what US area code you were dialing to/from.
The landline providers still do.
Q/ Guess who's winning market share?
Cheers,

Anyone else notice a drop off in these the past ten days or so? Usually we get 20-30 daily. Our phone has not rung for a week or so. We actually had a phone company tech come out and check today and he found nothing wrong.
Wait until January 2..
