The characters at the top are the same as stamps from the Japanese Occupation of Burma, but this stamp is not among those listed. I hope that you can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

The country name looks like Malaya. See Scott Catalogue Identifier (in the back of the book)

The country name is contained in the box between the values. The three characters refer to Malaya, making it Malaya Scott #N30.

As Linus says, the illustrated identifier in the back of the catalog shows the various country names (in Japanese) for the Japanese occupation stamps.

I finally found it. Japanese occupation of Malaya. These may be listed in SG? If so, can anyone help with a catalogue number?

From wikiwand.com --

In 1943, a series of 10 definitive stamps was released.

Here is a screenshot from that page.

Thanks Michael and Linus. You and I posted at the same time! I do appreciate your quick response.

I looked at N30 and that is for a handstamped surcharge on #45. I am unable to find this one in Scott. Perhaps Mi? SG?

No, Mel. The Stamp is Malaya, Scott #N30 for Malaya, not any individual state. You probably looked at the end of the Malaya section, which contains the Malayan States. I did that too at first.

With Scott, sometimes "back-of-book" doesn't mean "back-of-book". Just another item to add to my list for when I buy Scott.
