re: What do I have here?

The small boats look like Raumbots (R-Boot)
They served as minesweepers or escorts and went through many changes
Most were used along Norway's coast

re: What do I have here?

Always a challenge to decipher what was written. As far as I can make it out, it says:

right side:

Feldpost

Heinrich Langwieler
Gevelsberg i/ Westf.
Unter Barken

left side:

An Bord, 12.3.41

Ihr Lieben!
Die herzlichsten Grüsse aus
weiter Ferne sendet Euch

Euer Neffe Willi
matrose Willi Hogge
Feldpostnummer M06819

Short translation:

To Heinrich Langwieler in Gevelsberg, Westphalia, Unter Barken

On board, 12 March 41

Dear ones,
The kindest regards from far away are sent to you by your nephew sailor Willi Hogge, Field mail number M06819

(Corrected 19 March)

The warship in the background looks like a light cruiser - either the Leipzig or the Nurnberg. That class had a triple turret forward and two aft for a total of 9 150mm as main armamnet.

re: What do I have here?

The missing word seems to be "Ferne", hence "aus weiter Ferne" = "from far away". The place or street name in the last line of the address is Unter Braken (today Unterbraken, a small suburb of Gevelsberg, itself a smallish town halfway between Remscheid and Hagen). The recipient's last name is Langwieler. People of that name still live there. Langweiler (= boring person) might have been funnier, though ...

The former Kriegshafen (naval port) in Kiel is now known as Tirpitzhafen, named after the admiral and politician Alfred von Tirpitz (1849-1930).

re: What do I have here?

Makes sense. Probably correct. I did not recognize the "F", thought it was a capital S. I could not imagine it was an actual geographical place, as it would not have passed the censors.

I thought Langweiler was a bit funny but now I see I switched the i and e.
"Braken" was not something I would have made from the writing.

Thank you for the corrections and additions!
