So around midnight I finally received a text message update. Basically, because of COVID they're not going to honor their commitment to get my parcel there overnight. Not only that, the message went on to say they didnt know when my $26 Express Overnight would be delivered. What a crock.
Probably poking a hole and fumigating all such mail.
Are their not examples of envelopes that way during
previous world wide epidemics ?
It's especially shameful when it's going to our service men and women.
I've seen a LOT more unexplained "delays" in parcels as well as letters, foreign and domestic. Long periods of inactivity at individual locations in the tracking, drastic changes in estimated delivery date (literally changing by several days overnight), etc.
Unrelated to this COVID bs, but interesting to me....
I just received two first-class letters (from the same sender) in today's mail, which were postmarked on January 27th and February 4th. Nearly FOUR months to get from Akron, OH to my local PO south of Buffalo, NY! They arrived in perfect condition, no sign of being "folded, spindled, or mutilated", previously misdelivered, or anything else. Just MIA for months.
Fortunately, they weren't anything important.... just a 1099 and a check

@Partsguy...wow; just wow.
And when the guy across the counter just kind of shrugs and walks off that really ticks you off.
You know, me and my wife talked about this very thing not that long ago. I WANT to believe in the USPS; I really do. I still think the first class postage rate is a good deal but episodes like this really make you think it might be time to privatize. I'd bet the mortgage payment that FedEx would have had it there on time.
Be very careful what you wish for - Fedex now is not what Fedex used to be. Our post office counter people and drivers are first rate - a lot of it depends on the management,
Mother's Day flowers for my wife were supposed to have been delivered by FedEx....four times. One delivery went to an address down the street. No idea where the others went. The florist finally used a different shipper, and they arrived yesterday almost in time for Father's Day.
FEDEX tracking is a joke. Twice recently I had parcels I was expecting show as having been delivered- 'Left on Porch'. One showed up a week later; in checking I learned the date showing as porch delivery was simply the date they handed it over to USPS for delivery. In my area FEDEX deliveries are often targeted for theft. They have a habit of dumping boxes and not knocking or ringing the doorbell.
Okaaaay... so it looks like my theory on FedEx has been shot to h@ll.
Talked to the folks at Canada Post and they reported that volume is 20% over Christmas volume and they only have half the staff of Christmas time. Deliveries are two weeks behind schedule

A letter from Toronto took 16 days to reach me. I'm 150 km's east, not even 100 miles.
I did read they were short-handed there, but wow...
It's the same with all of them. I've been ordering my over the counter meds. via Amazon because my Prime membership gets them delivered the next day. Since this mess started, I can't get anything within a week. Some things two weeks. It saddens me to think I renewed this just before this mess broke out.
Hey Ernie,
Feel bad for ya - what are ya gonna have to sell outta yer collection to
be able to handle that double mortgage payment next month?!?

Thank you Carol, I am glad someone more kind
and gentle than I am chose to step in before
the three nitro tabs finished dissolving beneath
my tongue.
Even with the 50% decrease in mail volume that started
at the turn of the century, as of the end of 2019, USPS was
handling about 55,000,000,000 pieces of mail per annum
and the majority, despite the still unknown effects of
the Corona 19 virus of on time delivery is quite good, the
safety and accuracy across a nation 3,500 miles wide
with probably well over a hundred million addresses
should be considered phenomenal.
Locally, the largest private employer here in Panhandle,
Texas has its employees on alternating weeks, work and
furlough. I have not heard that the USPS was doing that,
or wanted to do so, especially in this sleepy town.
And yet the young woman who delivers the mail through
the proverbial "snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night"
which a day of so ago included hail pounding against
the window glass as well as thunder boomers that
shook the house, possibly risking bringing this infernal
infection home to her children, said "Hi, Mr. Jensen" and
smiled at us standing the front door Friday as she handed
me a wrapped album from an auction house in Canada..
Yes, there are slowdowns, in fact, I am awaiting a parcel
from Scotland, but considering all the existing problems
and the additional possible problems we get what we pay for,
if not more.
The best thing is that while privatization was discussed
a few years ago, today we can see the difference by the
example of FEDEX and its drop off on the porch, and run system..
Besides who wants to collect FDEX stamps with the image
of the Chief Executive Officer's dog or daughter displayed
on your mail ?
Probably photos from his, or her, family vacation

An order from Spain took a while to get here, but eventually it did show. The volume out there is massive, lets give the postal service a break. I'm sure they're doing the best they can under very trying circumstances.

I think the Coronavirus will have everyone reevaluating the world. We will see manufacturing brought back home and hopefully the importance of the postal service will be seen.
Can anyone tell me what the red "Alert" means? I could not find anything with a quick google search. Trying to get my son some important papers and sent something overnight through USPS. Thanks.
