I have a collection of covers - some with correspondence -

sent from Denmark to my hometown of Greenville, MI;

All the correspondence is written in Danish and covers roughly 1898 thru 1940 or so.

Some of this was sent during WWI and it would be interesting to me to have transcripts of the letters if possible.

Does anyone on SOR speak, read and can translate Danish to English??

re: Danish Translator??

Have you tried an online translation tool, like Google translate?

I've used it a few times and the results are 90% accurate or better.

Typically that left me with one or two phrases that were idioms that didn't translate well, but it's easier to find a translation elsewhere for a specific idiom than a complete paragraph.

Worth a try, maybe.

Lars

re: Danish Translator??

Hi Larsdog - I can have a look if you would like to email me what you need translating.
Have lived in DK since the early 70's and am pretty fluent. If there's a word I don't recognize I am sure my Danish wife will know.

re: Danish Translator??

Lars,

These are all handwritten and VERY difficult for me to even make out the wording or even the letters in the words.

Tedmast,

Thank you for the offer!

I believe what I would have to do is scan everything and then email it all to you.
There are I believe 3 or 4 letters and maybe 10 postcards.
It would take a bit of time, I'm sure - but if you are willing to give it a try I would certainly be happy to put some scans together!

Let me know what you think - I don't want to monopolize your time.

You can contact me thru private messaging here.
