Found this cover in my mailbox today, after I had it mailed to a board member on May 16th.

And of course it showed up here exactly on the day AFTER I mailed another letter to Brazil to another board member.

Since those are CP stickers, it makes me wonder what the letter has been doing for 2 months.

I am also unsure why the post office accepts these letters if they know service to the country is discontinued.

But I am pleased with how the sticker is affixed. A few years back, they would have put it right over the stamps.

You are probably better off than hoping some geographically
challenged window clerk, trying to figure out if "British
Columbia" is a province of "Columbia," refuses to accept an
envelope.
Or just where this "New MEXICO" addressed envelope in English fits into
the scheme of things.

I too am holding envelopes for a member in Brazil who were returned to me by Canada Post.

Canada Post will not accept mailings from Canada to many countries.

https://www.canadapost.ca/cpc/en/our-company/news-and-media/service-alerts.page

My suggestion to members who live in countries where mail is not being accepted from a member's country who you are anticipating purchasing stamps from is that you refrain from bidding until such time as mail service returns to normal.

The same is happening here in Scotland and no doubt all over the world.

Last night I got a message at 11.30pm from a member saying they had not received their last 4 envelopes from me. At 03.34 I got a message saying that he had now received 2 envelopes. The worrying part is that they were the last two I sent him. The first two are still in the system?

A few hours later I got another message from a different member saying he had not received his envelope sent 2 and a half months ago.

Mail companies have lost personnel to covid. Customs have lost personnel to covid.

Air routes between countries have been cut or disappeared completely.

Distribution routes have disappeared completely or they have to be altered.

For Exampl:-

All mail into Australia only goes into one distribution centre. Mail that used to go to the West Coast of America was either going to Chicago or New York.

Some mail companies sent airmail packages by surface mail as there were no aircraft

All mail companies are saying it is busier than Christmas with all the added on-line purchasing in their own countries.

So patience is required as there is and will be a backlog of items for a very very long time especially as covid is now back on the increase throughout the world.

Can not comment on others, but I purchased 14 items from the Netherlands on August 1, and they arrived today, August 13. Not bad since I was informed that expected arrival date was between 1 and 15 September.

Mailed an envelope to Australia 20 July and it arrived on 12 August. Still not bad since I only put 70 cents worth of stamps on the envelope. Expected to receive back for insufficient postage, but some how it went through.

I guess we can agree that mail delivery is often all
over the chart, probably due to vagaries we can not
always imagine.

Our postal system predates the nation and is a function
of our Constitutional government. Some times some suggest
it could, or should, be run like a functioning business
and show a profit, which might be refreshing, just like
the local police and fire departments do.
Only a few years ago the USPD handled, and in almost all
cases delivered, some 500,000,000 pieces of mail each
business day with amazing speed and accuracy.
Quite amazing, when you think about it.
Too bad every envelope did not have a postage stamp.

My wife and I grew up in New Mexico, and have lived in British Columbia since 1973. We well know how little geography seems to be taught these days!

When we tell people we are from New Mexico, they almost invariably say, "Oh! Mexico! Great!" "No," we say, "New Mexico." More often than not we are met with a blank stare and have to say, "You know, the state between Texas and Arizona." That too often meets with blank stares.

We don't get that kind of reaction here in BC, because, well, we mostly talk to people who are fellow British Columbians. But I have no doubt if we travelled, we'd get puzzled looks.

When we lived in Ottawa, we travelled once to Boston where I was scheduled to have a physical exam prior to being discharged from the U.S. Navy. We were in a taxi when the driver asked where we were from. "We live in Ottawa," I said. "Ottawa? Where's that?"

If you entered any of the two Tim Hortons stores in town you will find plenty of proof your statement above is correct. I am lost with the "British" part in all of that.
