My father in law was and avid collector until his death in 1974. So there is a lot unsorted or labelled. The main collection is in the old style of paper albums, books and hand written notes. Some are in black plastic "mounts" - sorry note sure of terminology. Plus first day covers and stamp sets from different sources.
"glassines or stock sheets" - ? Please clarify for me 
"specific country(ies) or span the world? " The simple answer is yes. Lots of Indian, Hong Kong, UK, old Iran from what I recall.
He also has some "imperfect" ie the watermark is upside down or printing errors.
A few of years back I started to use StampCat to catalogue, then after illness tried again. Last year I tried World Collector, and my husband helped with the Linux stuff, looked at Omeka also. So have recovered I am looking to get my head back into it and catalogued.

Glassine is a moisture and oil resistant, translucent paper. You can safely store stamps in ungummed glassine envelopes for a long time. But, you can't really see the stamps through the paper. "Glassines" here means those envelopes.
Stock sheets are a specialty thing for stamp collecting. They are made of stiff cardstock or nonreactive plastic, with glassine or plastic strips attached, that hold the stamp in place without damaging it. They can be relatively expensive (up to a $1 US a sheet, maybe more?) compared to other storage options, but they sure look nice. They usually are punched with holes to be placed in binders. They let you store stamps, and if the strips are transparent, to make a collection that can be displayed.

I have some of these and albums with them. Theses are for the better stamps.
I decided to learn by sorting add trying to catalogue the bags of assorted stamps first.
Yesterday i posted a long message in a new thread. Inherited collectiom - as could do with some suggestions and guidance.

Hello Everyone,
I’m a new member. I started collected stamps in my early teenage years and stopped collecting due to time restrictions from school and work. After school my interests in collecting went to other things.
Recently while working, I meet a former collector who was using his stamp collection, stamps printed 1980-2000, as postage on everyday letters. I was shocked. This renewed my interest in collecting stamps. I want preserve and protect this collection with an interest in keeping and selling some that are duplicates or that I have no interest to other collectors who will take proper care of them.
All are in great unused condition.
I do have a question about the sheets that were broken and partially used, Should I try to sell “as is” or separate the remaining stamps and sell those individually?
Good luck to everyone. Thanks for preserving history. Maybe with more people indoors due to Covid, this hobby choice will increase. Stay safe.

I am a new collector having inherited a collection. I had started sorting and cataloguing it, but had to take a break. Now I am back and looking forward to getting it on-line, and fully catalogued so I can share some beautiful and amazing stamps with interested enthusiasts.
