John,

It would help to know which war savings stamp you are referring to -

WS1, WS2, WS3, WS8 and WS13 are all green....or some version thereof.

Randall- It was the last stamp. I actually have the book you put the stamps in and when it is filled you can buy a savings bond. I will send you a scan of the book. What might the value be?

re: War Savings Stamps

I remember the third grade teacher at PS95 in Brooklyn
having what I guess were sheets and during a sort of
recess we could buy a 10¢ or perhaps 15¢ to stick in
our little 3"x5" booklets. I doubt The few that I ever
had ever turned the tide of battle and i believe the
partly filled booklet, after laying in a desk drawer or
somewherea few years, disappeared before I was ten
and we moved from the city to the potato fields of
Long Island where Levittown ws being built..
But it would be nice to have some of them in the US
album. I don't think I ever looked for any to mount.

re: War Savings Stamps

Here are a couple postal savings stamps used on cover. Not the green stamp the OP asked about, but a later 1942 red issue, Sc. WS7.

This item sailed right through the mail stream without a postage due from the post office.
