My guess would be the Japan-British Exposition, which took place in 1910.

Nice looking item and good work Philatarium.
I'd never heard of this exhibition before but yes the postmark is listed (but not illustrated) in Collect British Postmarks along with a similar machine postmark.
Thanks, Nigel! It's nice to be able to answer something obscure every now and then!
Actually, it was serendipitous -- a few months ago, I had heard mention of this exhibition, and, amazingly, the mental note I had made to try to look into the expo sometime actually clicked when I saw that cancel. And I thought I had remembered it took place 1910, which probably helped my brain lock it in more quickly. Then a little Wikipedia'ing.
One of the footnotes in that Wikipedia article pointed to this contemporaneous account published in Japan in English, weighing in at more than 1000 pages!
It's viewable online, and also available to download as a pdf or one's favorite reader format. Free to view or download.

Nigel: One additional question. Does Collect British Postmarks give a scarcity rating for items listed, or is it mostly just a list, with some illustrations?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply!
For some reason, I seemed to let a copy of it figuratively slip through my fingers a few years ago, thinking, 'why would I ever need this?'. I was young and naïve.
With so much philatelic literature, you just never know when you'll need something, and now that's why I try to grab on it whenever I can at a reasonable price, even if it seems to be rather far afield from my main collecting interests. You just never know.
