Hi Kapul
It is SG 554, but there is no variety listed, maybe the variety is listed in a specialist catalogue
Regards
Franz
Franz,
Many thanks for that, at least we have solved one half of the equation. I vaguely remember reading about the Broken N some years back but it was not of an interest at that time.
I'll keep looking. Cheers,
Sid
It's constant, and listed in Campbell Paterson as CP v5a(Y). My very old CP is in a box somewhere, so I can't help with position or catalogue value
Have a look here, check the last entry, Trans-Tasman airmail:

David and Jillcrow thank you both very much for your input. Jillcrow I went into the web site you listed and found some very useful info - ie. the flaw appears on every stamp in Row 4. So now I was getting somewhere, but needed to know how many stamps to a sheet and how was the sheet formatted.
I went into Stampworld.com to try and get the above answer, instead I found another dilemma. They show the stamp as being their #194 overprinted, however #194 is a Health Issue, see below.
I use Stanley Gibbons for all my Papua New Guinea, and do not have Sg.for New Zealand, so do you have an SG for the non overprinted stamp, and sheet numbers. The hunt for the facts is what I love about stamp collecting.
Many thanks,
Sid
The original 3 air mail stamps issued in 1931 are 3d chocolate (SG548), 4d blackish purple (SG549) and 7d brown-orange (SG550) (shown at the top of the link).
The 7d blue version was only released with the overprint. There is no SG number for the blue version without the overprint.
Dave might be able to supply sheet numbers if they are recorded in the Campbell Paterson catalogue.
All the clubs in Australia are most likely closed for the Xmas and New Year period, I am sure that there is a club somewhere in Queensland that collects and displays NZ stamps.
You live not far from Cairns or Townsville (I wouldn't walk it though). Most likely there would be clubs you can get in touch with, they will give you all the information you are seeking for that stamp.
Rob
Rob you are correct - you would not want to walk from my place to Cairns or Townsville especially in the heat we have at the moment- and yes the clubs are closed for the holiday's, however I have just purchased a copy of -Campbell Paterson's - A Catalogue Of The Stamps Of New Zealand 1855-1946 - so hopefully I will get from that the info I need.
Thanks again everyone.
Can someone please help me with the Stanley Gibbons number for this New Zealand stamp shown on the cover, issued 17th.Feb 1934.
Does anyone also know the sheet position of the "Broken N" variety as shown. I have a few copies myself so I'm assuming it is a constant variety.
