I see this type of thing on E-Bay all the time - whenever there is a mark of any kind on the back the seller calls it a signed stamp and sells it as though the stamp was authenticated. As far as I'm concerned it isn't authenticated unless it has a certificate. One seller offered to write a note himself to send with the stamp to prove it is authentic! Do they really think we are that stupid?
It really bothers me that collectors feel the need to brand their stamps and then expect people to want them. As a dealer, I find a lot of them in collections and mark them down accordingly. Marks of any kind do not enhance the value of a stamp - unless it is an expertiser's mark with a certificate. All others are just damaging the stamps.
This "Z" is a control mark, similar to the control numbers found on other Spanish stamps. Spanish Morocco stamps in the late 40's had this "Z", but those issued in the early 50's had numbers.
