Just borrowed the book "Milestones of the Philatelic Literature of the 19th Century" from a fellow collector which was published in 2013 by the Club de Monte-Carlo and have read the first 214 pages. It is a spectacular introduction to the early period of stamp collecting with sections on collectors, albums, catalogs, and publications of all types. I particularly enjoyed some detailed descriptions of the first produced stamp albums and the succeeding products that appeared during the 1800's.

I tried accessing the Club de Monte-Carlo's web site to see if I could purchase a copy of the book but it does not appear that the site offers a store (or perhaps they don't have additional copies available).

It was really quite an introduction to the entire concept of philatelic literature for me. I recently subscribed to the American Philatelic Research Library and got a few copies of their quarterly journal for the last year.

Does anyone know of any other organizations that produce similar resources? Especially in English although I have been making some progress with some French and Norwegian resources thanks to an incredible series of translation phrases that appeared in a Norwegian three volume resource on the stamps of Norway.

re: Milestones of the Philatelic Literature of the 19th Century

Here is a link to the Philatelic Society of Lancaster County, PA. http://lcps-stamps.org/history-mission/
Go to their resources page and check out their digital library. They have dozens of books as PDF for download. I am currently reading “Paper Chase”, The Amenities of Stamp Collecting, By Alvin F. Harlow, Henry Holt and Company, New York, 1940. It's an interesting read on the early days of Philately.

Thanks very much for posting that link, Vince! That's quite an extensive online assemblage! Looking forward to digging into some of those.
