I normally mail paid for Items to the Shipping Address provided by PayPal without giving it much thought. I just had PayPal provide a completely different address from what is correct. Has anyone else experienced this? It could cause problems (understatement). Thank you.

re: PayPal

I never use the Paypal address without asking first, although I have noticed there can be a difference on occasion. I always ask.

re: PayPal

I always use the address that is stored in the member database, because I learned that some people use the PayPal account of their daughter or their company, which may have a different address.

But, if you ever have to defend yourself against a claim from a buyer, PayPal will only protect you if you shipped it to the address shown on PayPal.

re: PayPal

That happened to me. I contacted the original buyer through their own Email address and asked if that was correct. Turned out they wanted to send a present to someone and put their address into the Paypal bill.
I also read about a case where the buyer account was hacked and another address substitute and the item was send to Hungary and disappeared. Ask the original buyer not through Ebay or Hipstamps but Their own Email. from the original purchase.

re: PayPal

How to prove that you did? I do not send out letters with a tracking code, nor do I take photos of every letter before dropping them in the mailbox. With the one hundred plus letters shipped each year, I have a problem with less than 1% of them. Most of the time an amicable solution can be found, I never had to call in PayPal's assistance.
So I take the risk.

Last week I send one letter containing € 330.00 of stamps; another € 86.00; another € 125.00
so you would take the risk?

At that level of course you would do your utmost to ensure everything was correct and above board.

Some of us plebs never reach anywhere near that level!!

Like Ian says. I am happy when my letters go out with a tenth of the value you mention.
It seems you're in a different ball game...

re: PayPal

For me using a different address (and even a different country) for my shipping address was my way round losing incoming overseas non-registered post into Thailand. I consolidate all my non-local buys through my daughter in Wales so they can be sent registered in large packets. eBay helps in this by allowing the registering of different shipping addresses from one's PayPal address. PayPal itself doesn't have that option. I tell SoR sellers my position and find they cooperate with this method. From the beginning I have never claimed against sellers on lost shipments as I realized there was a good chance it wasn't their fault.

I should add that among collectors I know here in Thailand I am the only one that seems to have this problem. While trying to figure out where my mail was going missing I opened two post boxes in separate postal districts but still had losses. The problem seems to be at either the international postal sorting facility in Bangkok or the airport itself. Maybe I should change my name so they don't know it's me.Happy

I ship to the address shown on the Stamporama invoice. Haven't had a problem yet, except for one time where the member moved and did not update the address. The letter was returned to me and mailed back to the new address.

But just as Jansimon mentioned, the address we use may be secondary in a Paypal / Ebay dispute as the critical item there is the tracking number.

The cost of mailing registered letters and the treatment they receive in the Postal service is something that completely defies common sense.

1. Bought an item from India worth $3 (a single stamp). Paid $2 for shipping. Seller managed to mail it registered providing a tracking number.

2. If I want to mail the same stamp to India from Canada by registered mail, it will be $22 easy.

3. People mail me registered packages from different places - Thailand, Bulgaria, UK, paying good money to have them registered. Once in Canada they all get treated like regular mail - no tracking no nothing!!

Blows me away.
