There are various shades for the 2/6 and for the 8½d which shares the same image, attached is a set of the shades. One stamp that is currently not in my collection is the 2/6 with the watermark sideways inverted, this stamp is extremely rare and is worth nearly $6,000.
Your stamp has a sideways multiple Crown and C of A (Commonwealth of Australia) watermark, with the Crown facing left. And the shade is Blackish-Brown, the date of issue was March 19, 1952.
It is valued in the ACSC (Australian Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue) at MUH - $30: MLH - $15: Used - $15: On cover - $80.
If the stamp is damaged it would cause the value to drop drastically, I noticed something at the bottom right of your stamp, I cannot say if it is a piece of paper adhered to the stamp or it is a thinned part of the stamp, both will drop the value, if it is thinned, especially that size the stamp will have no value.
The extremely rare stamp shows the watermark sideways with the top of the Crown facing right (as seen from the front of the stamp).

Thank you Rob1956. At last I understand. The stamp is not thinned. However there is a small piece of envelope adhering to the opposite side so maybe that makes it look thinned on t'other corner. So grateful to you for your knowledge. Best wishes. N
Glad to help, seeing that it's a piece of paper the effect on the used catalogue value would be minimal.

Hi Rob
Extremely rare is right, after searching through more than a thousand copies I did find one, got a cert for it, and sold it. But that was about four or so years ago. I have never seen another copy since. I buy every watermarked 2/6 Gwoya Djungurrayi that I see, and after nearly another 400, still no luck, but there is another one out there waiting for me to find it.

Hi Horamakhet
You have more luck than the Irish, leprechauns would feel inadequate trying to compete against you.

So much confusion regarding this stamp. I have one but whether it is the watermark mistake or not I cannot fathom. On mine (which see below)AUSTRALIA AT THE LEFT OF THE STAMP SO THE STAMP IS SIDEWAYS. NEXT TO THAT IS THE CROWN THEN 'A'THEN 'C' BACKWARDS. So from the front of the stamp it reads C of A crown. Looking from the top (which is the side) there are three CofA crown. crown C (backwards) of A. Next Of A Crown. Sorry to be a klutz but of all the information read it is totally unclear which is the more collectable. Thank you all those who may know. N
