I expect this comes from a slogan postmark of some kind.
Here's an example of one from Berlin that's not the same but it gives the idea:
Right on the spot nigelc.
Machine (advertising) stamp with head stamp on the right and advertising on the left.
Stamp color : black
Diameter : 22 mm
Description of the picture: Airplane with coat of arms eagle
Text description : Airmail transports letters - newspapers - parcels
Cancellation used from approx. 1930 till 1944/1945
NOTE : the position and size of the airplane and eagle can be different. (See examples)
Thank you for great comments, and pics of examples of this post.
this is one of the great things about SOR.
A question begets an answer; and others add to it. There's no competition for best answer and no fighting about who is most right, just continuous additions to the knowledge.
All of you ought to be proud, not only of your knowledge, but of the generous and caring ways you share it.
This very distinct black eagle mark on this SC #416 Hindenburg Memorial stamp caught my eye while going through a large accumulation of loose stamps. It is darker than the cancellation lines and can be seen clearly from the reverse side of stamp. If the eagle is an O.P., I'd like to know the history; since the stamp was issued during the early years of the Third Reich.
