Yup!
They can give you a scare.
Our one was A.W.O.L. for three days.
She strolled in as if it was the most natural thing in the world and an expression of "What's all the fuss about?"
We reckoned she had been locked in someones garage or shed.
Curiosity always got the better of her.

Harvey - glad your cat turned up safe and sound.. that happened with one of ours several months ago and I found her paralyzed in the basement in a great deal of pain. Vet said she had a stroke and she had to be euthanized. Very hard day, especially telling our daughters. So totally understand your reaction and happy for the good outcome.
It's really amazing how attached we get to our pets, I'm a cat person myself. I got up this morning and came downstairs and only one of my two cats showed up for breakfast. Only true animal people can understand the panic. I spent two hours looking everywhere with no luck. He had to be somewhere in the house because they don't go out. As you might know, if a cat is sick they usually hide somewhere until they either feel a bit better, or not... I went for a drive to pick up some breakfast and when I got back he was waiting by the food dish. Relief is not a strong enough word, but only a true animal "lover" would understand. I really think I prefer my cats over most people I know. At least you know where you stand!!!
