The Ohio River canalization stamp was first placed on sale October 19th, 1929 at the post offices at Cairo, Ill, Evansville, Ind, Louisville, Ky, Cincinnati, Oh, Homestead, Pa, Pittsburgh, Pa, and Wheeling, Va.
I will go through my duplicates today and see what I can find and email you directly if I find something of interest.

Thank you for providing the list of official "First Day" towns, Perry.
I got the first one here, Evansville, Ind., cancelled by a Universal machine cancel:
Hope the others to trickle in as well. Evansville with a different cancel than the one shown would be appreciated as well.
At this time I am only interested in FDCs with this stamp, no single stamps, plate blocks etc.
Another one, not in the best shape: Wheeling, WV.
Pittsburgh:
Cairo, Ill.:
Louisville, Ky.:
Now Homestead and Cincinnati only missing towns from Perry's list above -- plus any unlisted "inoffical" towns and different cancels from the towns already shown. Contact by email or put up on auction ...
Oops. Posted wrong picture for Pittsburgh cover -- not possible to correct with edit function. So, here you go:
Note machine number 3 in cancel. I would be interested to see if any other machines were used for the Pittsburgh first day cancellations that day.

My 2002 Scott Specialized says there were multiple different towns that provided first day cancels for this stamp on Oct 19, 1929 plus the Washington, DC cancel of Oct. 21. -- I'd like to acquirer them all, maybe also from additional "inoffical" towns. Looking for various postmarks machine/hand cancels used on the FD covers, maybe different cachets. CV in my older catalog range from $2 to $3.50. Based on that, I'd say $1-2 cash/cover should be fair. Idea is to put a trip along the Ohio river together based on the stamp and its first day of issue use.
