This is a great idea for those of you who make your own display albums. Go to your local scrapbooking supply store and pick up some page protectors. These are archival quality, reinforced, crystal clear, double sided, vinyl pages. They come with either black or white archival cardstock inserts. ...and they're cheap. I got a 10 pack for about $8.00 U.S. These are the pages the ladies put their finished projects in when they do photo scrapbooks. The black ones look great with stamps mounted on the inserts. If you mess it up, you can always buy a new sheet of black cardstock paper and start the page over again. I'm thinking they would work fantastic for displaying larger items like covers, postcards, or blocks of 4 or more. They are available in 8.5 X 11 or 12 X 12. The holes in the 8.5 X 11 fit a standard binder you can purchase anywhere. The 12 X 12 would require a special binder which the scrapbooking store also sells. The one by me had some BEAUTIFUL padded genuine leather binders in different colors. Take a browse through the store. You'll find many item's that are useful to philatelists.

re: Page protectors

I have picked those up at Michaels store very inexpensively for special collections I have begun. 12 x 12 is nice for larger sheets.

re: Page protectors

I get mine from a national chain called "Archivers". I found some on sale at Hobby Lobby the other day. A box of 100 for $5.99 minus 50%. I couldn't pass it up. I wish I had. The protectors were cheap flimsy things that were half an inch wider than a standard 8.5 X 11 binder. I guess it's just like almost everything else in the world... you get what you pay for.

Another good usage just occurred to me. I would think a protector like this would be essential for pages you plan to display at stamp shows.

re: Page protectors

A caution with the 12 x 12 pages. They will not fit properly in an exhibit frame. The top of the pages will be cut off (covered) by the frame of the plexi when you close it over the exhibit. These pages are fine though for personal collections.

You can also buy albums to hold the 12 x 12 scrapbook pages at Michaels for not too much.

Standard 8 1/2 x 11 page protectors are best for exhibits. I have some 11 x 17" pages in one of my exhibits and found page protectors for them at a local stationary store, but had to special order. The 11 x 17" page take the place of two standard 8 1/2 x 11" pages in a row in the frame. Excellent for oversize pieces or covers. Allows display of #10 business size in horizontal vs tilted format.

Downside is shipping, but even that I found a way around. Fedex or UPS has boxes to hold that size and cost of shipping is about the same, remember you can also include the standard pages.

Make sure you advise the organizing committee when you submit your exhibit entry that you will have some oversize pages. This is to make sure their frames can accommodate them and that volunteers can handle them. If they are ordered on the reverse properly, this shouldn't be a problem. As long as the page height is 11" max most frames will handle them. Higher than that and you run into problems.
