Any idea what stamps they are? Scott #4 and 5 or 7 and 8, or 13 and 14 or 29A?
I assume it is native paper, but I am by no means certain of it.
the Michel catalog makes it only more complicated, as it lists many more varieties...

Scott and Michel are indeed not very clear on the differences. I checked Yvert and they came up with the following differences:
1st set: papier blanc épais = thick white paper
2nd set: papier indigéne jaunâtre (mince ou épais)= native yellow paper (thin or thick)
So the colouring and paper thickness make the difference.

Here's what MICHEL 2006 says on Nepal SCOTT #13:

Aa - grauschwartz (Seidenpapier, nur 1. Auflage) - Grey-Black (Tissue paper only for the first issue) - no specific price is indicated
Ab - schwartz (2., 3., 5.-11 Auflage - issues 2, 3 and 5-11) - used price: EURO 15.00
Ba - grauschwartz (Seidenpapier, nur 1. Auflage - Grey-Black (Tissue paper only for the first issue) - used price: EURO 140.00
Bb - schwartz (2., 3., 5.-11 Auflage) -
Black - issues 2, 3 and 5-11) - use price: EURO 3.00
As a recent Nepal collector, I also have my doubts on some of their first issues, but maybe time will teach me how to recognize them easier.

Hi Radu,
you have picked the wrong stamp. It looks like the stamps I have are Michel nrs. 25 (or 26) and 27 (or 28) from 1917.
I do not think they are the earlier types from before 1900 as they have been cancelled with the crescent moon telegraph cancel, which is said to be typical for the 1917 series.
@Harry: it is very thin paper, so that would probably make it the 2nd set.

You are probably right; I just haven't seen your scans. Therefore I chose one of the stamps with more than one single paper variety.
This was just an example showing that tissue paper was not used for all issues of a certain stamp, so variations in paper quality and type may also be found in MICHEL.
As for MICHEL #25, there is also a specification on the paper type: "einheimisches, duennes Seidenpapier", meaning "local, thin tissue paper".

Yesterday I found a bunch of old Nepal stamps in an auction lot I bought at the stamp club. They turned out to be of design A1 (perhaps also A4), 1a and 2a values on very thin, almost seethrough paper, imperforated.
Any idea what stamps they are? Scott #4 and 5 or 7 and 8, or 13 and 14 or 29A?
