Tim- great feature as it allows the article authors to see how many times articles are being read.
Thanks for this, Tim. I wonder if it would be possible (and a good idea?) to allow members to comment or ask questions about the articles, following the articles themselves.

Interesting thought Bob. Let me think about the best way to do that and I'll get back to you.
Regards ... Tim.
Maybe simply (?) providing a link to a companion discussion here on the discussion board could do the job? There are probably a lot of considerations that will have to go into having two discussion areas -- one for the articles and one for everything else.
I agree with Bob 100% that it would be nice to facilitate some interaction with the authors. Our discussion board is well underutilized. Maybe channeling traffic from the articles to the discussion board section and vice-versa could help cross-promote the various areas of of stamporama (?).
Speaking of view counts, Tim: Do you have a number how often a given discussion on average is actually accessed? Is it just my perception that almost nobody uses the discussion board ('nobody' being defined as less than 2% of members)? Or maybe I am wrong, and there are in fact a lot of 'silent' readers out there that we active participants and contributors to the discussion board are not aware of ...
Thanks Tim - this new feature is great. Congrats to all of our authors!
Excellent Idea and implementation Tim.

Hi Arno,
To give you an idea of the usage of the Discussion Board, in the month of June, the Discussion Board displayed 20,000 pages. The total pages displayed by the website in the month of June was 142,000 pages. You might say that the Discussion Board percentage of the whole is small, but I believe 20,000 pages is a significant readership.
Regards ... Tim.
Someone mentioned earlier about the "silent" users...I am one....
Well, Tim, is the glass half full or half empty? Hard to say. 20,000 pages accessed is really not much at all. This may correspond to as little as 20-40 'regulars.' Assuming 20% of pages accessed are to the archived discussions in search of information, that would leave 16,000 hits for the current stuff. I post something -- twenty folks access and read the post = 20 hits. One person responds, the same 20 folks now click again and read the response -- another 20 hits. I respond to the response -- plus 20. Then, of course there are some folks late to the party and only access the thread once and read all contribtions in one sitting.
I estimate there are about 300-400 postings per months, not new discussions, just individual contributions. Considering this, and you and I and a couple of other regulars who read everything are good for 200-300 hits/month each, I cannot say that we are really penetrating deep into our memberbase. Too bad, because if you look at what kind of awesome things some of our members collect, there really is a universe of knowledge to be shared out there.
But just to make it clear -- I am not asking for any changes. I was just curious. Over time, I am sure, the supply will create the demand. I guess we just have to continue doing what we are doing already, maintain the friendly atmosphere we have, answer questions, introduce interesting and relevant discussions covering a wide range of philatelic topics etc. and activity here will pick up automatically.
@ Kellysboytoy: hello, nice hearing from you.
From the perspective of a relatively new (and mostly silent) member of SOR - the Discussion Board is a really great feature of the website. I read almost everything, and it is generally very informative and often extremely entertaining.
Don't know how much traffic would be needed to qualify as high activity. I don't respond much because it seems as if all angles of most discussions are already covered by others.
Sure hope the Discussion Board continues on as is - folks are helpful, pleasant, friendly, and knowledgable. That's just my opinion after having posted a couple of questions and getting some fast and helpful answers.
I also think the site is user friendly - easy to search for topics, easy to post questions, etc. Really appreciate all the work that goes into maintaining and improving it! Thanks.......
This is a note for all of our Stamporama Article authors. I have added a Views count column to the list of articles in the Articles Workshop, so that you can see the number of views that your articles have received. The Views Count function was implemented on July 1st, 2010 so the count of views indicates the number of views that your articles have received since then.
