General Philatelic/Supplies, Literature & Software : Stock Pages: Recommendations Wanted

I desperately need to replace the black vinyl stock pages I have been using to scan items for the auction. I would like the replacements to be durable with repeated use, and fairly reasonably priced.

All info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Bob,
Are you talking about Vario / Hagner pages you want to replace?
If yes, why?(curiosity). It is the most convenient I have found to scan items.

Perhaps I should clarify. It isn't a matter of convenience, but rather durability. The ones I am using are coming apart at the ends of some of the rows and many of the bottoms as well. So, I was thinking that some of the members might have found that a specific brand might be more superior than others, and thus the posted request.

re: Stock Pages: Recommendations Wanted

Hi Bob,
I have 2 kinds of these pages. One that I purchased a long time ago (visogrip made in sweden) seem durable enough, but the plastic material used has warped over time making them useless for scanning. (causes reflections). The others that I purchased in the last few years are Hagner made in England and so far they work fine. I use them the same way that you do for scanning. The only problem that I have found with the Hagnar is that some are scored too deeply cutting into the card backing and making them weaker. I expect that most brands will start to show some wear and tear after repeated usage.
Regards,
Another Bob

re: Stock Pages: Recommendations Wanted

I have been using Vario pages for thirty or more years with no complaints except for the time I spilled some coffee onto one album and the stain got into the top two rows of a few pages.
In fact, I have the Machin reference album in two three inch binders all on Vario pages. Some of the pages have been in play for almost as long as the Machins have been used.
One diffeence is that I almost never bother to scan anything so I wonder if the problem could be caused by repeated exposure to the bright light and heat of the scanner?

re: Stock Pages: Recommendations Wanted

I believe the answer is simple;
it's the constant inserting and removing of stamps in the page slots...it only makes sense that - as you continue to prod and pull on the page openings - they will eventually start to separate at the seams, (along with creating a distortion when trying to view the stamp thru the wrinkled strip face)....much like a book that is re-read so many times that the binding eventually starts to fray and split.

I have found that the only answer to this is to simply replage each page as it becomes to worn to use.
....some things just wear out!

Yes, while it is true that all things (including ourselves) do eventually wear out, some things do manage to provide more real service time. So, like the Michelin tires I buy, because they outlive everything else I have tried, I have purchased some new Vario sheets. Only time will tell if they are the better.

Thanks everyone for the input.

I was going to say I liked your avatar Bob but instead of just using a similar photo it covers the screen.
Perhaps Tim can shrinkit to normal size.

This is going way, way off topic. However, that being said, Fabulous Picture Charlie! Do you think we might have been shipmates? :-)

Thanks for sharing.

No Tim, I just wanted to enter the world's cutest young nautical dreamer contest with a photo but the thing came out too big.
In the past I sent photos to photobucket and if they were ginormous they have a feature that allowed me to resize it.
I haven't figured out where and how to do it here.
