Hi All,
Before Christmas I downloaded a new program that is still under development and is available as freeware. It is very useful for anyone that wants to scan a stockpage of stamps and then cut out the individual stamps as separate images with their own file numbers for use in a database or to list for sale in Stamporama or another auction site.
The process is called "image bursting" and it automatically puts all the boxes around the stamps as soon as the full page image is opened. On the next step, file numbers can be entered for each stamp and then the entire page full is burst into a designated folder all ready to upload to the internet or whatever you want to use them for.
I used to have to do this one stamp at a time and this saves a lot of time for me. It does not work perfectly every time, but tools are included so that errors can be quickly and easily corrected.
If anyone wants more information, it can be found on the following link:

http://code.google.com/p/stamp-imagebursting/

There are links on this page to the download page and also a U tube video that explains it all.
The software developer is also a stamp collector and he made this software specifically for stamps.

Bob

re: Using New Software for scanned images that may be of interest to members.

Thanks for the tip!

Although it is freeware it would be a nice gesture of Stamporama members who download the application to provide a small contribution or a thank you note to the applications developer...

Contributions

I have spent many hours developing this application. While the Stamp Image Bursting Application is freely available for your use (subject to the Apache License Version 2.0), if you wish to contribute a monetary amount to help development of this software, support this server providing the application or provide a thank you gift, I would be happy to accept contributions via Paypal. Since I am not part of a tax-exempt organization, I will need to track and file any income with the US Tax authorities. Paypal rules dictate that I need to send an invoice for goods/services. If you are interested, please contact me at jadrake75@gmail.com from the email you wish to receive the invoice from along with the amount you are interested in contributing and I will provide an invoice.

Alternatively, since I collect stamps of the British Commonwealth (1840-1953) in mint condition and would love and appreciate any such contributions.

I agree completely. I sent a contribution to Jason recently after using the software for a while. It is well worth paying something for and the improvements are still coming. Hope you all will come to the same conclusion.
