Hi All,

Isn't there a catalog (possibly FDC) which prices among other covers US plate block singles on cover? It's skirting around the lines of my memory banks, elusive and just out of reach...

Thanks,
Bruce

If it exists, I could use one. Any offers?

bruce, i've never heard of such a thing, but Bob P might know. I think he's as close as we can muster to an FDC afficianado. Failing that, how about contact AFDCS, they might know.

re: Is there a catalog for US plate block singles on FDC?

Bruce,

Sorry for the delay in checking on this for you. I have a 2003 Scott First Day Cover Catalogue & Checklist by Michael Mellone. It lists plate block values starting with number 772. Depending on the date of issue there are different criteria for pricing. Prices are for common cachets. There is a cachet calculator included. It has quite a few cachet makers but not all.

Here is an example:
Artcraft 1939 4 times
Artcraft 1940-1946 1 1/2 times
Artcraft 1947 to present 1 time

Fred Collins 1978 to Date 8 to 20 times

Dorothy Knapp 1941-1945 200 to 400 times
Dorothy Knapp 1945-1952 200 to 300 times

Checking around the internet, the most recent edition I can find is 2007 (on eBay) and the seller wants $79.95 for it. That sounds crazy to me. My 2003 has a retail price of $9.99 on it.

Thanks, Bob. Does the catalog you mention in addition to plate blocks on cover, also list the plate number single stamps on cover?

I don't have the book handy but I'm pretty sure it doesn't. There are so many factors in valuing FDC's. As an FDC collector, I'm mostly interested in the Cachet. I don't really care if the stamp is a single, PB, Plate Number Single or even if it is a combo cover (with other related stamps). I'm sure there are others that do.
