Hi SOR members.

Ken Perry has just made an update to his Century of Progress article/exhibit, adding new material related to the C18 “Baby Zep” Century of Progress airmail stamp. This article is looking really sharp - I'd encourage everyone to have a look at Century of Progress.

Thanks,
Ralph

i had no idea that the bulk of the proceeds went to the Zep, not USPOD. Amazing. And surprising that FDR was such an early and ardent anti-NAZI.

Silence in the face of adversity is the father of complicity and collusion, the first cousins of conspiracy..

re: Updates to Century of Progress Article

The goal probably was to enhance cross oceanic air travel and not to support the Nazi organizations.
Plus "der Führer " only consolidated power in 1934 at or around Hindenburg's passing. The Nürnberger laws on Racial Purity were promulgated in 1935 and slowly the depths of the horror began to penetrate the world's leader's understanding.
The Century of Progress Baby Zeps were issued in 1933 and the ever more famous "Zepplin" set in 1930.
Despite Hitler outlining his overall intentions in Mein Kampf in the 1920's I suggest few Americans ever waded through what I consider turgid prose and even fewer took his loony ravings seriously.
After all the German people were cultured, educated people living in a democracy, surely they would not give up their freedoms to such a person in a free election, a lesson that is still appropriate in our world.
