I collect classic US so this cover is out of my area of knowledge. I just want to know if it is a typical first flight cover or something special. What's itsImage Not Found approximate worth.

re: 1928 Graf Zepplin Cover

I can't tell you the value, but "first flights" do have a special interest. Seeing that the envelope doesn't have air mail stamps used to pay the postage (the Zeppelin stamps were issued two years later), it may detract from the value a bit.

If you can't get an answer here, or if you want a second opinion, there is an airmail specialist over in the Forums at BidStart.

Thanks michael78651. Just trying to get a ballpark value. $1, $5, $50 or $500? Deciding how to store it, whether to sell it,etc. all depend (to some degree) on its value.

re: 1928 Graf Zepplin Cover

It is one of the more common Zeppelin Flights. The first return to Germany from Lakehurst. In perfect condition, and being realistic, it is a $30-40 retail item. Brookman (the company that is pointed to above), is not known for bargain prices, so their asking price of $64 for a postcard carried on the same flight is "in line" with this evaluation.

The $500+ items on Brookman's site are priced not because of the flight, but because the stamp dealer Roessler, who created the particular covers/cards that they want so much for, has a following of collectors for his material quite separate from the demand for Zeppelin flights. He was quite famous/notorious. A Google search for his name will return some interesting articles about philately in the 1920s-30s.

This particular cover is not in the best of shape. I would describe it as "light overall soiling, some perf toning, and an edge tear top" (it may also be trimmed top and left, but that also could be cropping of the picture). As such, I would expect it to fetch $15-20.

Thanks one and all,

I can relax. It's pretty ordinary and worth $20-$30. Thanks
