John, we wish here that the USPS had lost twice this year what Canada Post has. That would be only $122 million. USPS has lost billions.
Michael:
Apologies.
Expressed myself poorly; wasn't talking absolute dollars, was talking RATE OF LOSS. The USPS's rate of loss is twice that of Canada Post's. (In terms of David-and-Goliath perspective, the USPS, we all know, could purchase Canada Post from it petty cash fund.)
I very much regret bringing this issue to the attention of Stamporama Americans. Where is "amsd" when I really need him to pour some seasonal good cheer on this discussion?

LOL. Well, we already know that we have a postage rate increase coming in just about two months. Also, this Saturday, the USPS is issuing four high dollar stamps that are not being automatically distributed to post offices. Will cost $18 for one of each of the four, or $180 for a pane of each. A souvenir sheet will be issued on Friday, which also will have limited distribution. At least that one I can get from my post office since the first day is here too.
You would think that if they're going to print stamps, that they would make it easy for people to buy them. They spend a ton of money each year destroying stamps that didn't sell. Makes one roll their eyes up and wonder....
You don't want USPS to buy Canada Post.

You must try that out at the next "open mike" night at the local stand-up comedy club, Michael. That is a hilarious line !!!
Now I am going go need to take a nitroglycerin tablet again.
The attention of Stamporama members who may be unionized employees is drawn to the last paragraph of this news clipping.
Canadians love to pride themselves on being a multi-cultural nation which takes care of all its citizens, ever so much more so than its survival-of-the-fittest neighbour to the south.
Truth be known, Canadian politicians are unsurpassed when it comes to pulling the plug on those on life support.
