Hi Everyone,

This item is not listed in Scott and I was wondering if perhaps it is listed in SG or Michel or someone could give me more information regarding cv.

The overprint is in Silver and the Edition # is 16332. Printed by John Waddington of Kirkstall Ltd. Leeds, England.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Kelly, it probably is listed in Scott (without the overprint). The listings for Guyana can be tough to go through. I have to go pick up family at the airport now, or else I'd try to dig through and see if I can find it.

You won't find it listed with the "Specimen" overprint. With that overprint, it is not valid for postage. Specimen issues were given to the Universal Postal Union.

re: Guyana: stamp identification Scott unlisted Queen Elizabeth Ruby (40th) Wedding

Hi Michael,

It is Design A66 15c (Scott 281) but no surcharge (like the majority of those listed in Guyana). Even though the Ruby Wedding was 1987, it could have been printed in 1988 or even 1989 (highly unlikely).

Unlike other Royalty events such as the Queen Mum's birthday in various years as well as the Queen, there is no listing in Scott of an overprint for the Ruby Wedding (that I could see, although I could have missed it). It does have a distinctive issue number on it and from what I've found online there was a limited number produced but it doesn't seem that the actual stamp went into circulation (those with the overprint only on them). It does appear on a few FDCs that I've found at various auction sites (not just ebay) ranging between $110 and up.

I'm at a loss at exactly how to define or evaluate it. I saw on one site that there is possibly a Yvert's listing, but I don't know anyone who would have that. If you do get a chance to look through Scott, maybe you'll see it where I keep missing it. Sometimes if you look too long, you miss it, right?

re: Guyana: stamp identification Scott unlisted Queen Elizabeth Ruby (40th) Wedding

I found a Ruby Wedding listing in Gibbons. It is SG #2233 and #MS2234, issued in 1987. It is not pictured in the catalog, but consists of SG #1684 and #1685 either overprinted or surcharged. However, it is not of the sheet you have.

In the 1980s, Guyana cut down all the trees in their rainforests, manufactured tons of paper, and printed stamps 24/7 for years. At least that's what it looks like in the catalog listings. It is totally possible that there are plenty of unknown stamps issued during this time as there were up to seven companies producing stamps for Guyana all at the same time during this period.

You may want to create a clearer image and send it to Scott for their review. It is not in the Scott catalog at this time that I could find.

Great idea Michael. Thanks!

I have a number of other Ruby Wedding issues that are not listed in Scott. They have the singles listed but not the souvenir sheets. Plus I have imperforate souvenir sheets of the Queen Mum's 85th birthday that are not listed in Scott, although the perf s/s are listed. I think I found one instance of a footnote in one country listing that an imperf s/s is known to exist but that's all that it says. I have about 2 dozen that perfectly match the perf sheets but no mention in Scott.

As I go through the collection I'm amazed at what is missing in Scott.

re: Guyana: stamp identification Scott unlisted Queen Elizabeth Ruby (40th) Wedding

Hi, as an avid collector of anything from Guyana I must say that I have Scott and Stanley Gibbons catalogues and find some stamps are in one and not the other and I also have a few that are not listed by either. For example I have the 2002 Scott 3706 $100 Great Wall of China with a border in used condition which is not listed by either.

my used stamp

Also have a $6 Lapwing as 1995 definitive issue which is considerably smaller than usual.

I find Guyana interesting but sometimes very frustrating. If anyone can shed any light on these stamps I would love to hear.

Martyn,
The top two stamps are Michel 7406 and 7407, both are valued at 1.60 Euro mint and used. The next stamp I cannot find. Finally, your Lapwing is Michel 5124 and valued at 0.20 Euro mint and used. Also the size of the Lapwing stamp seem correct as far as i can tell by the catalog.

I can see the catalogs missing issues from Guyana. After all, that country issues at least 100 stamps a day, doesn't it?

Hello Terry,
Thanks for that info, guess I will have to invest in a Michel as well. The top ones are listed in both Scott (1 July) and SG but the bordered stamp isn't, I also have the Kaieteur Falls stamp with border on an envelope alongside a Chinese stamp with datestamp 27 June so even more problems being thrown up.

As for the Lapwing the normal stamp is about 30mm high and 21mm wide this one is 23mm high by 21mm.

Regards
Martyn

Oh yes and Michael are you telling me they are now issuing only half the number of stamps
