Good job, Michael. I just checked to see if they had changed or not and was going to inform everyone, but you beat me to it.
Mike
When did Canada get lumped in with the ROW, as far as postal rates go. I was just posting a letter to Canada and checked the rate, three times, and it still came up $1.10. That is a 25 cent raise, not a nickel, as the ROW rate went up.
Mike
Canada did not get placed with the rest of the world. Canada and Mexico used to be in Region 1. Mexico got moved to Region 2, leaving Canada by itself.
Look closer at the rates for Canada. That $1.10 is for up to 2 ounces. While the rest of the world is $1.10 for up to 1 ounce. That's a big discount for Canada if you mail more than 1 ounce there.
That's exactly what I did, picked Canada out of all of the choices available and listed it at one ounce shipping weight and the magic number was------$1.10. That's why I did it three times, I couldn't believe it was the same as the european rate. I just figured they moved Canada to some other place in the world, just so the PO could jack up the rates to that destination.
Mike
Gee Mike,
Someone moved my country and forgot to send me a notice in the mail! Lol

The US Postal rates to Canada are still cheaper than Canada to USA.
The new Canadian Postal rates are up to 30g - $1.10; up to 50g $1.34; up to 100g or bulky or larger than a #10 envelope $2.20 PLUS 12% Harmonized Sales Tax (from B.C.)
International rates are almost double the rates to the USA.
Within Canada - $0.63 up to 30g; $1.34 up to 100g or oversize/non-standard plus 12% tax.

Mike, yes, for the first ounce the rates are the same at $1.10. That's so the USPS can sell more International Forever stamps!
After that, the second ounce costs, simplified:
- Canada $1.10
- Mexico $1.65
- Europe, Asia, Australia $2.05
- Central America (excluding Mexico),South America, Africa $1.90
After that, the third ounce costs, simplified:
- Canada $1.55
- Mexico $2.20
- Europe, Asia, Australia $3.00
- Central America (excluding Mexico),South America, Africa $2.70
It just gets worse from there. You get only 1/2 ounce more before it has to go as a large envelope. The price for postage for parcels, well, don't look at it. You'll want to set your hair on fire.
LOL Liz, at this *rate* - no doubt!
It gets worse if you are shipping Parcel Post or Priority, the increase in letter rates pales by comparison. It is now cheaper to ship UPS or Fed Ex for some package sizes and destinations. My neighbor who is a frequent EBay seller had several packages returned to him that hadn't left the post office before the rates went up. He was irate.
Good thing the USPS never issued stock.
I warned you not to look at those rates! I guess you don't have any hair left on your head now... sorry.
I wonder if I can float my US mail across the channel in a container and have someone pick it up on the shore? The delivery time would probably be faster than from Canada and cheaper too if postage were applied in the USA. Or perhaps I could just tie the container to the back of the MS Coho that leaves Victoria and sails to Port Angeles.
Liz, I buy from several people in Canada. There is a service that takes the mail across to the US (the mail, from my understanding) has to be franked with US postage, so you'll have to buy US postage) and mails it in the US. I get reduced/free shipping that way from those sellers. I got told once what the name of the service was, but I don't remember it now.
$161.40 to use the ferry!!!!!!!!! I guess people don't get off the island that much!
OMG, $161 to leave the island. Nope, not for me, I would just stay in my cave and be happy, happy, happy, as long as the "revenuers" left me alone with my wittle bitty bits of paper. I'm glad that I don't live in the great white way of the north. Nope, I'll just sit out in the back yard and soak up the sunshine (and maybe a few cervezas), all year long and let you brave folks have your HST, SST, GMT, PMT and freezing cold temperatures and never the twain shall meet. LOL
Mike
Effective today (January 27, 2013), the USPS new postal rates have gone into effect. With all the buying, selling, trading and other mailings going to and from members, here is the complete price list from the USPS of all postal services that they offer:

This also includes PO Box rental fees (yes, they went up too...)
