Okay.... If you make your own album pages, or if you use stock sheets, you probably have them stored in 3-ring binders of some sort. I have read many woes of how folks have trouble labeling the binder spines.

Some use the paper self-stick labels that soon begin to loose their stick'em and curl at the ends until they fall off all together. Some have used the spring clip label holders that just look clunky. And then there are others that just throw their hands up and write directly on the spines with permanent markers!

Well, my collections are mostly housed in the G&K padded binders that are sold by Subway Stamps. Then I found these wonderful vinyl label holders made by Cardinal that are adhesive backed & you just peel and press them onto the spine of the binder. Then you use Word and print up some colorful labels to slip in the pocket. None of these label holders has ever come come loose or fallen off of the binder. A package of 12 holders runs about 3-4 bucks. I don't consider that too expensive for the nice touch it gives my collection.

So, now I don't have to remember... "was the Australia collection in the blue binders or the green ones?"

re: Binder Labels

I use binders that are pocketed outside - front, back and spine;

that way I can make a cover page to slide in the front face, a back cover page if I so choose to slide in the rear pocket and a spine label also of my own design/choosing....which can cover the entire length of the spine or just a portion.

I would love to have all GK binders, but they can be cost-prohibitive....at least for me.

I purchase my binders at Wal-Mart for under $5 each....I prefer all black, but other colors are available as well.

....and they ARE D-ring lay-flat binders, as well.

Just another potential option for all you album page makers!

Odd this topic came up because I posted a similar topic in another forum.

I got tired of looking at blank labels with plain text, so, decided to make up my own.

Here are some of the images.

I'm going to take Terry's suggestion and his and Bujutsu's ideas and make some labels of my own. They add a really nice touch to the albums!

Once you see the albums lined up against each other, they really look neat.

I think the labels add flavour to your binders

Some binders have a transparent plastic front cover as well and I also use one of my logos or coat of arms etc., right on the front.

I don't know why, but one night when I couldn't sleep, this idea hit me. I once heard that this type of idea is called a "Cold Foot Idea" because you get up in the middle of the night and the floors can be cool. Who knows? LOL

Fact of the matter is that your frigid weather comes from Russia; Canada is unable to
prevent it from entering our sovereign territory.

It's the New Cold War so get used to it.

To strike a blow for democracy and against solidarity, I have quit collecting Russia stamps. Take that, comrades!

re: Binder Labels

I also make my own pages and keep them in 3-ring binders with outer pockets on the front and the spine. I take severely damaged stamps, hinge them to paper cut to size, and slide them into the outer pockets. I use US stamps for the US albums, BOB stamps for that album, precancels for that one and so on. I don't use any stamp that would have any value to anyone else - most are missing edges or have holes or other damage. By careful placement, the damage is not obvious.

Lots of the stamps I have used came from local club members who were just going to discard them anyway.

I took one of the albums to a club meeting and got lots of positive feedback. So now I make up one or two empty albums to give as door prizes at our annual show. The albums have been very well received.

I like this because you can use whatever type of stamp will best define whatever is inside the album. Don't have a photo or I would post one.

Charlie,
The only problem that I see with hinging stamps upside-down is you now have to stand on your head to look through the album. Something very hard for me to do nowadays.

re: Binder Labels

A few years ago a seller listed some UK Wildings(These were the definitive stamps, {1953-1967} showing Queen Elizabeth, that came before the current wildly popular Machin Series ) that were supposed to have inverted watermarks.
That issue has three different types of "Crowns" that were used in the watermark and because the paper was not always fed into the printing machine upright the crowns can be inverted or not. Also since coils and some booklets were inserted sideways during the printing process the crowns can be sideways left, or sideways right, all of which makes it an interesting series to collect.
Anyway to underline that the stamps being offered were supposed to have inverted watermarks the seller had displayed the scan of the stamp's face inverted for the auction.
Being in a mood that evening I sent him a note suggesting that if he reversed the the direction of the scan, the stamp's watermark might gain the normal orientation.
Well I thought it was funny, anyway, but the seller either had no sense of humor or missed the point.
I forget his exact words and they were laced with what I assume were British insults about my intellectual capacity to put my pants on one leg at a time.
All of which I thought was even more hilarious.
