Do you restore these scales to woking order? Or would that be like a coin collector cleaning his coins (strictly forbidden)?

No, I do not restore them. I am not aware of anyone going out of their way to restore these smaller scales. (Big ones...yes) It is one of those subjective areas. When I buy an antique scale, its appearance/condition is my main draw/consideration. I don't "lean" toward the "get it restored" side. I prefer used antiques to reflect its age and use.

Thanks for inquiring

Clayton,
Personally I think that is the wisest choice to make. Most of the "mystic" of an antique is the fact that it is old and probably well used. If you wanted "new" you could have bought new, but it would certainly not have the old panache of an antique. That is a great looking scale, good find.
