It's been a very successful fourth year for the Holocaust Stamps Project in Foxboro, MA where there's just a month left to the school year, and the total number of collected stamps has surpassed 2.7 million as of 5/28/13! (The first year's total was a mere 26,000!)
The Foxborough Regional Charter School community is using the donated postage stamps - in any condition and from anywhere, in any amount - to represent every single one of the 11 million lives taken during the Holocaust. Why stamps? They symbolize something special, of value, that is just tossed in the trash after their intended use (unless a philatelist rescues them!)
Students are working hard to complete their 7th, 8th, and 9th stamp collage artworks before school's out for summer, depicting their newest knowledge about the Holocaust, its victims and specific events that have had longterm effects on the world as we know it today. The planned series of 18" x 24" collages will include a total of 18 images created with thousands of the donated stamps.
A public venue is being sought for the eventual display of all 18 artworks as well as the remaining collection of 11 million stamps, which will be held in a special custom-designed transparent sculpture/housing so that visitors may appreciate the magnitude of the number of lives needlessly taken during the Holocaust.
A number of stamps donations have included notes from Stamporama members - THANK YOU!
The school office will be open all summer so anyone who wishes to participate may do so at any time! Mailing address: Holocaust Stamps Project, FRCS, 131 Central St., Foxboro, MA 02035
The Project website is a bit outdated with regard to the stamps total, but all the info and photos are up-to-date, if you'd care to check it out...
