Stay tuned, Bob. There are discussions going on as we speak that may help you in that area.
One option at this time is to search the member list for people who have the same collecting interests as yourself. Those who are interested in trading will have that information available in their member profile. Feel free to contact those people who are interested in trading to see if they are interested in trading with you.
We did have a Round Robin here years ago. It was rather short-lived. Actually we tried twice that I can recall.
We also do have a trading section in our topic list (that you posted your question in ). You could mention that you are looking for trading partners in your area of collecting and then ask that anyone interested contact you using the information contained in your member profile. Please do not post your contact information on the public forum as people who wish to engage in trading, auctions and purchases must be members of SOR.
I hope this helps.

Bob, one problem with exchange clubs is that with all good intentions, often people swap out nice stamps for crud stamps, or they take out the higher valued stamps and replace them with common minimal value stamps. Hard to control that, unless you work out the swap beforehand, knowing what it is each person will get.
Michael - I agree, that's why the few times we tried the Round Robin here on SOR, it failed. It's best just to find one or several trading partners.
i think Kelly's prescription to find individual trades is the way to go. I think the beauty in that approach is that you know who you are dealing with, and the incentive to provide equal value is more immediate and direct and reciprocal. Round Robins saddle guy #3 with guy #2's trash while guy #2 has benefitted from Guy #1's treasures. Direct trades allow one to refine the terms and types of stamps as one goes. I've participated in several round robins, sometimes benefitting, sometime not, but always watching it implode within two rounds max.
on the other hand, i've had both long- and short-term trades, and while not all have been brilliant, none have been disasters, and some turned into relationships I treasure to this day.

I traded with someone here, and it worked for me. I sent him my extra classic U.S. and told him to decide what they were worth to him. He sent me back classic stamps from Japan, and some from Israel.
I see no reason to store duplicate stamps just because they might have an alleged higher value. I prefer stamps that will cover the illustrations in my album because I collect for fun, not profit. To me, my album is just another toy. I'm always amazed when I see stamps listed here in the auction stating catalog values of $10.00, #25.00, or higher, that I have several duplicates of, and when I get one I feel, "Oh dear, another one of those."

Finding a compatible trading partner is not always easy..unless you are lucky..its best if both collectors are at a similar level...beginner,advanced and so on...over the past 40 years i have found a few trading partners that lasted for years. In the beginning i traded catalog for catalog or stamp for stamp...but that can turn into just keeping score..like watching the stock market....now if someone has a stamp i can use i will send them JUST ABOUT anything they want that i have !
As there are no trading offers here, and that is the stated purpose of this topic, I am moving this thread to the "General Philatelic Discussion" topic.

Found this thread in search and I have a question that is similar.
I've been soaking a good amount of stamps, and I'm starting to get duplicates. I am wondering how to "get rid of"/sell/trade these stamps. I was thinking two ways that I might put together a lot:
* 1 of each duplicate that I have - making it a pack of all different stamps.
* One country into one pack containing multiple of each stamp.
Have you done anything like this? What works? And which lot would you prefer when buying?
Thank you for any advice you can give

Create approval books and put them on SOR to sell.
"Create approval books and put them on SOR to sell."
I try to get rid of my extras via specified exchanges, mainly via facebook. I´ve created 2 folders with stamps for exchange and only exchange with people who have photos/scans of their exchange material. It works fairly good for me
The approval books are intended for just what you have. There are plenty of posts about putting them together. Lots of tips as well.
how do i like to trade my duplicates ? If someone has a stamp i can use i do not worry about catalog value..i will gladly give more from my duplication for a stamp i can use .
I was wondering if there are any exchange circuits or such that people here use? I know quite a few years ago when I was active before in collecting there were exchanges that you entered sheets of duplicates into and they sent you sheets form others and took a commission on your entered material.
Do such things still exist or are there other better solutions these days?
Other than running everything thorough the auction I was wondering how other folks used up their duplicates to build up their collections?
Thanks
Bob
